Robert Maxwell was appointed to update a 3-bed top floor apartment in Battersea, London. The apartment itself was quite unusual for the area, more comparable to an East London loft type dwelling – the proposal was to play on and enhance this character while adding and updating facilities. A signature glass balustrade with concealed LED up-lights was installed in order to dramatize the transition between levels. In the kitchen a 50mm concrete worktop provided a contemporary edge that was then balanced by the inclusion of traditional Shaker-style cabinets and classic metro wall tiles (accented with a blue grout). On the upper level the master bathroom was reappointed so as to double as a dressing room; utilising the space under the eaves created additional storage space and the room was finished so as to meet the client’s desire for a ‘boutique hotel’ feel but in a private residence. Even though the property is on the 4th floor of the building, we were able to provide the client with a pleasant outdoor space (and significantly increase the useable footprint) by creating a terrace, overlade in Sapele, leading off the master bedroom.
