Robert Maxwell was appointed to carry out the refurbishment of a Grade II listed property in Chelsea, London. The response looked to develop a contemporary aesthetic that would remain sensitive to the existing period features. Our plan centred on an extensive bespoke kitchen in a style that combines a clean minimalism with the warmth of expressive material finishes and precise, intelligent detailing. A stepped glazing system (provided by Apropos: triple glazed with self-cleaning glass) opens up the rear of the property, while sandstone tiles matched to those within the ground floor living area provide a seamless transition between interior and exterior. State-of-the-art under floor heating that adjusts according to the prevailing weather conditions was also installed. The result, over the lower-ground and ground floors, is a space that is at once classically modern but which still sits comfortably within its traditional surroundings.
